1.2 ltr direct injection turbo petrol engine unveiled by Toyota

Toyota has unveiled there second turbocharged engine. This engine comes with drastically improved thermal and fuel efficiency. This new 8NR-FTS 1.2-liter direct-injection turbo engine combines Toyota's hybrid and conventional powertrain development, including breakthroughs in combustion and loss-reduction technologies. Due to this engine is capable of delivering superior driving performance and acceleration, while also achieving impressive fuel efficiency and world-leading thermal efficiency.
The new 1.2-litre turbo charged engine puts put a maximum power of 116 bhp at 5200-5600 rpm and a maximum torque of 185 Nm at 1500-4000 rpm. To enable adaptive intake cooling without getting affected by the engine’s thermal load, a single-scroll turbocharger is paired with a cylinder head that uses an integrated water-cooled exhaust manifold to optimize exhaust temperature. This results in responsive acceleration and maximum torque across a wide rpm range.
Toyota will launch this new engine with the facelifted Auris in Japan with a fuel economy of 19.4 kmpl.
